Catherine Tate on hosting this year’s Doctor Who Prom:

How does this year’s Prom compare to previous ones?
It’s a fully immersive experience for me. Whereas before, I was just dropping in and out. Which was lovely, but now, it’s grander and more exciting.

Do you have a favourite piece of music?
When I saw the first cut of The Star Beast, with the first bits of post-production in it, and Murray’s arrangement of when Donna becomes the Doctor-Donna again, I genuinely thought it was astonishing. I was able to look at it outside of myself, and really experience it. When you go in and do ADR – Additional Dialogue Recording – it’s all completely flat because there are no sound effects on it. So, when I saw it, the music just elevated it so much. Obviously, it elevates everything – that’s why we’re here!

What is your favourite thing about hosting the Proms?
That alchemy of live performance where the audience know that we’re all in it together – they are always incredibly supportive and patient when I get pronunciations wrong!
