The Doctor's granddaughter speaks to Doctor Who Magazine about her dramatic return in Season 2...
One of the more surprising moments in Season 2 of Doctor Who was the return of a very familiar face: Susan Foreman, granddaughter of the First Doctor and the very first character to ever be cast in the series. Carole Ann Ford reprised the role onscreen for the first time in over 40 years — and recently spoke to Doctor Who Magazine about the experience, Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor, and stepping into an all-new TARDIS...

Carole Ann Ford on returning to the TARDIS set in Season 2:
“I felt quite emotional going on set; the feeling of standing on the TARDIS and going, ‘Wow’ – also – ‘why didn’t I have this in my time?’ On An Unearthly Child [the first ever story recorded in 1963], just as I was about to say my very first line in Lime Grove Studio D… the fire alarm went off. Studio D was so small and the air conditioning was not good – a sprinkler system came on when the room got too hot. Would you believe it, 60 years later, I’m on set in Cardiff, in the TARDIS, just about to say my first line… and the fire alarm went off. History repeating.”
