Tom Riley to star in new series of Doctor Who

We can confirm that Tom Riley will appear in the new series of Doctor Who, starring in an adventure written by Mark Gatiss.

Tom recently won plaudits for his portrayal of Leonardo Da Vinci in Da Vinci’s Demons. Previous credits include Inspector Lewis, the hit comedy Twenty Twelve and Monroe. He played Dave Beethoven in the BBC’s Freezing (pictured above) and starred opposite David Tennant in St Trinian’s 2: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold. Filming on his Doctor Who episode begins soon.

Mark Gatiss needs no introduction to Doctor Who fans having written many previous episodes including The Unquiet DeadCold War and The Idiot's Lantern. He also wrote and was an executive producer on the acclaimed one-off drama, An Adventure in Space and Time.

Other guest stars already announced for Series 8 include Line of Duty star Keeley Hawes and former-History Boy Samuel Anderson as recurring character Danny Pink. The new series of Doctor Who introduces Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor alongside Jenna Coleman who returns as Clara.
