The Sontarans are returning to Doctor Who! The Doctor's diminutive yet fearsome army of enemies will be making their next appearance in Doctor Who: Flux, which begins on October 31st - and Doctor Who Magazine has the full low-down in this month's issue, with an excluisve extract below.
In the special bumper issue of the magazine, costume designer Ray Holman discusses the new-look Sontarans in Series 13. Prosthetics designer Danny Marie Elias also describes her work reimagining the Sontarans for the upcoming series, which will see the classic villains return once again alongside other iconic monsters such as the Weeping Angels.

Chris Chibnall talks more about the return of the Sontarans in the issue. Read an extract below:
“I love the Sontarans, and I thought they were due a comeback,” says Chris Chibnall, of the return of everyone’s favourite dumpling-headed clone warriors. “I’d had the idea about Jodie’s Doctor going up against them for a long time – you might remember that she mentioned them in her online COVID message last year. That was a little hint!
“In The Time Warrior [1973-74], the first time we see a Sontaran it claims its territory on Earth by planting a flag! The Sontarans are strange, dark and funny. There’s a great psychology behind them, like so many of Robert Holmes’ creations.
“There’s a real humour to them, but they’re not ridiculous,” insists Chris. “They’re highly focused and mission-driven, and in their actions they can be really dangerous. You’ll find that the Sontarans pose quite a threat in this series. They’re great villains.”
