Peter Davison to host Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular in Australia and New Zealand

Legendary Fifth Doctor Peter Davison is heading to Australia and New Zealand next year as the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular returns, bigger and better than before with a new show based on the recent Doctor Who 50th anniversary Proms in the UK.

Peter will host the show live, which will also feature specially filmed links from Fourth Doctor Tom Baker, who recently had a cameo role in the anniversary special The Day of the Doctor.

The Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular is coming to Melbourne, Brisbane and Wellington in January and February 2014.

Peter, who played the Doctor between 1981-1984, said: 'I am really looking forward to coming to Australia and New Zealand as part of the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular tour, as well as coming face to face with any Daleks or Cybermen who may turn up along the way. The music of Doctor Who is amazing, and nothing can compare to hearing it performed live by orchestras of the calibre of the Melbourne, Brisbane and New Zealand Symphony Orchestras.'

Silurian

Also taking to the stage at is renowned conductor Ben Foster. Ben has orchestrated and conducted Murray Gold's music for Doctor Who since 2005, comprising 83 episodes to date, as well as concerts at the BBC Proms, Doctor Who Live and previous performances of the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular.

Ben said: 'I am delighted to be back on tour with the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular. Doctor Who has been such a big part of my life for such a long time – it’s great to share this experience with so many fans.'

The 2014 show will feature all-new content - including the latest music from the 50th anniversary episode and forthcoming Christmas special The Time of the Doctor, Matt Smith’s final performance as The Doctor. It will also feature a look back at some of the previous Doctors, music from the last five decades, as well as performances of some audience favourites from the 2012 show.
