BBC Studios announces the upcoming release of the official soundtrack for the highly anticipated Doctor Who spin-off, The War Between the Land and the Sea. The album will be available across all major digital platforms on 5th December, with its debut track, ‘Barclay’s Theme’, launching today. Distributed by Silva Screen Records, this evocative album features a sweeping original score by acclaimed composer Lorne Balfe, culminating in the powerful closing cover of David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’ by Alison Goldfrapp and Lorne Balfe which will release on 12th December.
The soundtrack captures the drama and intensity of the new series, blending orchestral grandeur with modern sonic textures to create an unforgettable listening experience.

Lorne Balfe, composer said: “Creating the score for The War Between Land and Sea felt like composing at the boundary of two worlds – where the modern day meets the ancient sea. I wanted to draw the audience into a journey of mystery, wonder, and conflict, and I hope every note echoes humanity’s struggle to find balance with forces beyond their understanding.”
Alison Goldfrapp added: "Covering ‘Heroes’ felt deeply connected to the spirit of the series which is about resilience and unity in the face of overwhelming forces. Working with Lorne was a wonderful experience, his ability to weave emotion and cinematic vision into orchestral textures brought a new dimension to ‘Heroes’”.

The first track, 'Barclay’s Theme', is available for streaming and download on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and other major platforms from today, November 28th with the album launching online on 5th December. Alison Goldfrapp & Lorne Balfe’s ’s cover of 'Heroes' will release online on 12th December. A physical album will launch in 2026.
The War Between the Land and the Sea will launch with a double bill on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK at 8:30pm on Sunday 7 December, and exclusively on Disney+ outside of the UK (where available) in 2026.
