"Chris [Chibnall] arranged for a few Doctor Who legends to chat to us and we spent some great afternoons grilling people. Apart from David [Tennant], there was Russell T Davies (he loved dinging that bell that we had on the table: “Silence, McTighe!”), the lovely Ray Holman, James Strong and Andy Pryor. We all wanted to know Andy’s stories about casting the Doctors. He told us how Chris Eccleston had brought his nasal hair-trimmer along to the audition to use as his sonic screwdriver prop, and then left it behind! Russell texted Chris Eccleston to tell him and he’d replied, “Keep it – maybe give it a wash.”
Oh, and Jodie [Whittaker] popped in! Long before she was cast, just to say hi and see what we were doing."
