The End of the World | Gridlock |
The oldest inhabitant of the Isop Galaxy, and indeed perhaps, the entire universe, the Face of Boe appeared to be a giant human head contained within a jar. He first crossed paths with the Ninth Doctor when they witnessed the expansion of the Sun and ensuing destruction of the planet Earth aboard Platform One in the year Five Billion. Thanks to the Doctor, he also survived the event, despite the machinations of the conniving Lady Cassandra.
The Face of Boe watched the universe grow old. He later came to reside at the New New York Hospital where he told the Tenth Doctor that he would reveal his greatest secret to "one like himself", before teleporting himself away. Ever the enigma!
In the year 5,000,000,053, the Face of Boe sacrificed himself to save New New York City, and with his dying breath, he finally told the Doctor his secret: “You are not alone.” It wasn't long before the Doctor found out exactly what this meant...
Speculation that Captain Jack Harkness might be the Face of Boe occurred after he revealed that he was the only person from the Boeshane Peninsula to become a Time Agent, thus earning him the nickname, ‘The Face of Boe’.
