If you’ve never heard of them, the team behind Worlds Apart explain more:
What is Doctor Who - Worlds Apart?
Doctor Who: Worlds Apart is a digital trading card game that allows players to collect and trade their favourite characters, objects and moments from Doctor Who and the extended universe before battling their friends in head-to-head contests.
What makes it different from another trading card game?
Well, there are four key elements that make Worlds Apart and its gameplay something special and unique:
1/ Unique Card Identities In Worlds Apart, every individual digital card has its own identity and history, enabled by blockchain technology. Everything your cards do in-game is recorded and stored publicly, allowing you and others to see a track-record of wins, losses and other accomplishments.
For example, your Tenth Doctor card will behave in the same way as a thousand other versions of it in the game, but it will have its own unique story to tell via the data that's recorded while you play.
2/ Customisation & Exclusiveness What’s more, you can also customise the look of your card with our versatile card frame system! There will be a multitude of different frames to collect throughout the game's lifespan, each with a distinct look based on aliens or objects from the show.
Examples include the Silurian frame, Bronze Dalek frame, or the now sold-out TARDIS and White-Point Star frames.
Most frames have limited supplies - those are called ‘Alien’ frames and tend to look a lot more impressive than the unlimited and commonly available ‘Core’ frames. Importantly, the do not affect the power level of the card - they're purely cosmetic, enabling you to make your collection even more unique.
In fact, we currently have over 2,500 combinations of cards and frames, with many more to come.
3/ Trading Mechanism Every card (including its frame) can be traded on our marketplace or withdrawn to third-party markets, where you can sell or buy them with cryptocurrency.
4/ Fresh & Innovative Gameplay While the game itself does draw on familiar and well-established trade card game systems, we've made sure to sprinkle in a lot of new and interesting game mechanics. Watch out for the Alpha or Beta testing phase if you want to experience the game first-hand!
Where do I start?
If you want a full deck of cards with the cosmetic Alien frames at the lowest prices, then the earlier you join in, the better. But if you just want to play the game then you can always jump into the marketplace (coming early 2021) and buy the cheapest (but equally powerful) versions of each card for your deck. You can even buy player-made decks in one go, eliminating the hassle to build it yourself entirely!
How do I play with the cards, can I play with friends?
You can start building your collection of the digital trading cards now, and the game will be available in open beta from late 2021 until the end of 2022 / start of 2023.
And Yes! Playing with friends is a feature will be enabled during or after the Beta. You can play on PC and Mac. Mobile will follow at some point after that.

I’m pretty new to Doctor Who - do I need to know everything to play?
Not at all. The game's mechanics are built to be recognizable by fans - we want to give players that feeling of "oh, it makes so much sense why that card has this ability", based on their knowledge of the show. But equally we want the game to be an easy entry point into the Whoniverse for non-fans.
Having experience with trading card games or great knowledge of the Whoniverse will allow you to learn the game faster, but there will be extensive tutorials and modular learning scenarios so that everyone can learn to master the game at their own speed. Practice makes perfect!
When can we expect the game to launch?
