Idris (The TARDIS)

Played by Suranne Jones

"Me. You're going to steal me. No, you have stolen me. You are stealing me. Oh tenses are difficult, aren't they?"

First Regular Appearance
The Doctor's Wife

When the Eleventh Doctor followed a distress signal to an asteroid in another universe, the TARDIS lost all power and worryingly, its matrix had vanished. Investigating where it might have gone, he encountered a beautiful but manic woman called Idris.

Idris rushed up to the Doctor, calling him “my thief” before biting him. Her fellow inhabitants on the asteroid excused her behaviour, saying she was mad. Later, the Doctor realised that the TARDIS matrix had been ‘stored’ inside Idris’s body.

Knowing Idris was too weak to host such a powerful living consciousness, with less than an hour to survive, the Doctor tricked House, a malevolent entity, into transferring them back to the TARDIS console room.

Idris died when the matrix was released back into the TARDIS, vanquishing House in a battle of souls. A golden image of Idris appeared, using the last of her energy, to say the one thing she has always wanted to say to him since they first left Gallifrey...

“Hello. Hello, Doctor. It's so very, very nice to meet you.”
