In the seventh episode of the new series of Doctor Who, Kerblam! (Written by Pete McTighe, directed by Jennifer Perrott and guest starring Julie Hesmondhalgh and Lee Mack), the Doctor and her friends receive a mysterious message calling for help in a package addressed to the Doctor, prompting them to investigate the warehouse moon orbiting Kandoka, home of the galaxy’s largest retailer, Kerblam!

The team uncover a sinister plot devised by young cleaner Charlie who had assembled an army of postman robots and set them to deliver explosive bubble wrap to customers at planet Kandoka. Thankfully, the Doctor was able to foil his plans and make the robots open the packages and pop the bubble wrap on themselves, destroying them and taking Charlie with them.

Doctor Who has a knack for making things you see everyday monstrous. Bubble wrap can officially be added to the list of mundane objects made sinister which currently includes statues, shadows, teeth, Santa and shop window dummies (more here!).
