To mark the beginning of filming on Series 8, two new images of Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi have been released.
The first image shows Peter in the Eleventh Doctor's costume, alongside co-star Jenna Coleman, who plays Clara. Arriving on set for his first full day, Peter said “New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I'm emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world.”, while executive producer and lead writer Steven Moffat heralded the beginning of "the Capaldi era".
The first episode of Series 8 has been written by Steven Moffat with the second episode penned by Phil Ford. These are the first episodes that Peter will shoot and are directed by Ben Wheatley. Filming on the season will continue until August 2014.
Another exclusive image of the new Doctor appears on the cover of this month’s Doctor Who Magazine, available from 9 January. It shows Peter in some of Matt Smith’s costume, in relaxed mode while filming the regeneration scene from The Time of the Doctor.
"I was five when the show started,” Peter tells DWM. “I don’t remember Doctor Who not being part of my life, and it became a part of growing up, along with The Beatles, National Health spectacles, and fog. And it runs deep. It’s in my DNA..."
DWM 469 features the first full interview with Peter, a candid chat with Steven Moffat, plus a preview of The Moonbase DVD, an in-depth guide to The Curse of Fenric, and much, much more. Doctor Who Magazine is available from all good newsagents, or on monthly subscription – either delivered straight to your door or through the iTunes store.
