Visiting the Doctor Who Experience

Car

On 2nd April 2017 there will be a road closure due to a Cardiff sporting event until 2pm. This will affect the approach road to the *Doctor Who Experience.*

Insert ‘Tyneside Road, Cardiff’ into the Sat Nav: 1. On approach to the destination you will see the ‘Future Inn Hotel’. At the roundabout beside the hotel take the first exit 2. Follow the road for 100 metres and at the traffic lights turn left onto Pierhead Street 3. Continue on the road and bear right at a small roundabout, as the road turns into Tyneside Road 4. Continue along the road and you will see the Doctor Who Experience ahead

Car Parks There are two nearby car parks:

The nearest car park is a few hundred metres opposite the Doctor Who Experience, this is The Lock Keepers Cottage Car Park which has 54 spaces. For sat nav use CF10 4GA.

Please be aware that vehicle access to the Lock Keepers Cottage Car Park is not permitted via Porth Teigr Outer Lock Crossing (Orange Origami Bridge) by the Norwegian Church. Road access is only available via Tyneside Road and the inner lock bridge and by passing the BBC Roath Lock studios.

You can follow the more detailed instructions below up until the traffic lights which bring you onto Pierhead Street. To find the Lock Keepers Cottage car park, turn left at the traffic lights, instead of right. You can only access this car park by driving down Porth Teigr Private Road, past the BBC Roath Lock Drama Studios and the Doctor Who Experience.

Please find below detailed instructions for the car park at the Waterside/Pier Head Street Multi Story in Cardiff Bay, which is a 10-minute walk from the Experience. For this car park use CF10 4PH in your sat nav:

From the M4 Eastbound

  1. Leave the M4 at Junction 33
  2. At the roundabout, take the exit onto the A4232 (Grangetown Link Road), signposted Cardiff Bay / Penarth / Barry
  3. Follow the A4232 (Grangetown Link Road) for 10 miles, passing the exit to Penarth and the exit to Techniquest and continuing through the Queen’s Gate (Butetown) Tunnel, towards City Centre / Docks / Inner Harbour.
  4. Turn right at the roundabout, 2nd exit, towards Docks / Cardiff Bay / Capital Waterside and follow the road to the traffic lights (Pierhead Street, apartment blocks and water ahead, 1 Caspian Point to your right).
  5. At the traffic lights at 1 Caspian Point turn right onto Pierhead Street (watch out for the Dalek sign that will point you towards the car park!)
  6. Get into the right hand filter lane and turn right at the traffic lights onto Caspian Way.
  7. At the mini roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the Waterside Car Park entrance approach.

From the M4 Westbound

  1. Leave the M4 at Junction 29 and exit onto the A48 towards Cardiff.
  2. After 5 miles, exit onto the A4232 (Cardiff Bay), remain in the left hand lane and then take the A4161 towards the City Centre.
  3. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and continue to follow the A4161 (Newport Road), signposted City Centre.
  4. At the mini roundabout, take the 2nd exit and continue to follow the A4161 (Newport Road).
  5. Follow the A4161 for a further 2 miles until you reach Hallinans House on your left. Turn left onto Fitzalan Place.
  6. Continue on through the next set of traffic lights and then bear right, passing the fire station.
  7. Turn left at the traffic lights onto the A4234 (Central Link Road).
  8. Keep in the left lane over the flyover until reaching the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit, towards Docks / Cardiff Bay / Capital Waterside and follow the road to the traffic lights (Pierhead Street, apartment blocks and water ahead, 1 Caspian Point to your right).
  9. At the traffic lights at 1 Caspian Point turn right onto Pierhead Street.
  10. Get into the right hand filter lane and turn right at the traffic lights onto Caspian Way.
  11. At the mini roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the Waterside Car Park entrance approach.


Train

Cardiff Central is the main railway station in Cardiff city centre, serving local stations in Wales, as well as intercity destinations including London, Bristol, Southampton, Birmingham and Manchester. Train times can be found on the National Rail website »

It's a 10 minute taxi or bus journey to the Experience from Cardiff Central station. The Number 6 BayCar bus which drops off at the Doctor Who Experience can be found at the back of Cardiff Central Train Station

From Cardiff Queen Street Station you can take a direct train to Cardiff Bay. The train journey takes 4 minutes and the Doctor Who Experience is a 15 minute walk from this station.



Bus and Coach

The "Baycar" number 6 bus service connects the Doctor Who Experience with the Cardiff city centre, as well as Cardiff Central railway station. The service runs the following frequency:
